Overview

Palm Tree Removal Auckland

Palm trees bring a distinct look to Auckland properties, but an overgrown, unwanted, or poorly placed palm can quickly become more trouble than it’s worth. Whether it’s crowding a driveway, blocking a view, or simply no longer fitting your landscaping plans, full removal is often the most straightforward solution. Our team handles every stage of the process, from an initial site and species assessment through to a fully cleared section.

Because Auckland Council rules can apply to notable trees, heritage areas, and native species like Nikau, we check consent requirements before any quote goes out, so there are no surprises once work begins. Palms are removed in controlled sections to protect fences, roofs, and gardens nearby, with all trunk, frond, and green waste taken off site the same day. If you’re unsure whether removal, trimming, or another service fits your situation, we’re happy to talk it through and point you the right way. Give us a call, if you need palm tree removal in Auckland.

Why remove

6 Reasons a Palm May Need to Come Down

01

It’s dead or dying

If your palm hasn’t pushed a new spear leaf in a while, or the fronds have all turned brown at once, it’s likely done. A dead crown can shed weight unpredictably, so it’s safer removed than left to see what happens next.

02

Storm or wind damage

Auckland’s storms are tough on palms, and a cracked trunk or snapped crown rarely heals. Once the structure’s compromised, it’s really just a matter of time, and often best to remove it before it decides the timing for you.

03

It’s outgrown its spot

That cute palm you planted years ago? It’s probably twice the size now, crowding the driveway, blocking the view, or leaning into next door. Sometimes the kindest thing for your garden’s layout is simply letting it go.

04

Root or structural risk

Palm roots don’t ask permission before lifting paving or nudging a fence line. If you’re noticing cracks or movement nearby, the palm is likely the culprit, and removal is usually easier than an ongoing battle with the roots.

05

Disease or pest damage

Some palm diseases don’t stay put; they spread to healthy neighbours if left unchecked. Catching it early and removing the affected palm can be the difference between losing one tree and losing several.

06

Preparing for renovations

Pools, extensions, and driveway upgrades all need clear ground to work with. Rather than building around an inconvenient palm, it’s often simpler, and cheaper in the long run, to clear it before the diggers arrive.

Pricing

How Much Does Palm Tree Removal Cost in Auckland?

Price depends mainly on two things: the palm’s height and how easily we can access it. A small palm with clear ground access sits at the lower end of the range, while a larger palm needing sectioned removal, rigging, or a lift climbs higher.

Dead or storm-damaged palms can also cost slightly more, since a weakened trunk needs extra care to bring down safely, and anything over 8–10m usually falls under our tall palm cutting service instead. Stump grinding is always quoted separately. The figures below are a starting guide — every job is confirmed on-site or from clear photos before work begins, so there are no surprises once the crew arrives.

Small palm, easy access $450–$900
Medium palm, standard section $900–$1,800
Large palm, tight or high access $1,800–$3,500+
Add stump grinding $250–$550
Indicative ranges only. Consent processing, if required, is quoted separately.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need council consent to remove a palm?

Sometimes. Notable trees, heritage overlay areas and native species such as Nikau can carry extra rules under Auckland Council. We check your address and species before quoting.

How is this different from trimming?

Removal takes the whole palm out, trunk and all. If the palm is otherwise healthy and you only want it tidier or shorter, trimming and pruning is the cheaper option — see that service page for details.

Do you also grind the stump?

We can add stump grinding to the same booking, or handle it separately afterwards. It’s quoted apart from the removal itself.

How soon can you book a job in?

Most areas of Auckland are booked within seven days of a confirmed quote. Storm-damaged or hazardous palms are prioritised — see emergency removal.
